Wheelbase

WheelBase firmware update v111-rc3. Improved games compatibility, new smoothing options, optimized slew rate settings, improved power on calibration procedure, improved static force reduction filter, more stable friction and inertia filters.

Update steps:

1. Download and unzip: https://virtualracingschool.com/downloads/DFP/VRS_DirectForcePro_Config_20220512.zip

2. Make sure you only have one instance of the config tool running at once (stop any old VRS_SimWheelConfig.exe or recent VRS_DirectForcePro_Config.exe).

3. Download the firmware: https://virtualracingschool.com/downloads/DFP/firmware/VRS-DirectForcePro-WheelBase-v111-rc3.fw

4. Select the Wheel Base in the device list at the top. Click on Enter Bootloader. Wait for the file open dialog to pop up and select the downloaded .fw file.

Make sure you match up the config tool and the firmware if you decide to go back and forth!

Let us know how this works and feels!

If you have both the wheel base and the pedals and want to use the same config tool, get the matching pedals firmware from here: https://virtualracingschool.com/downloads/DFP/firmware/VRS-DirectForcePro-Pedals-v111-rc3-2.fw

If for some reason you decide you don't like this release, go back to the factory firmware and config tool:

- Improved games compatibility. All known issues are fixed. A small number of games would require a compatibility registry key to be installed. This can now be done from the config tool - look for the Install button under the wheel animation.

- New and improved smoothing options. Legacy 1-4 are the original smoothing options. Responsive 1-2 are new "direct" filters, which remove the quantization steps from the input signal but minimize filter lag. The Optimal filter fully removes quantization from the input but makes it feel less direct / more soft without loss of detail. Soft 1-3 modes not only smooth the input from the game but also remove high frequency signals from the input. The soft modes are helpful for games that run at high FFB update rates and output unwanted high frequency vibrations.

- All three slew rate settings are audibly quieter. Performance is most noticeably quieter while being equally responsive. Balanced is better placed between Performance and Quiet. Out can think of slew rate as an output filter. If you go with Balanced and Quiet you may want to go with a more responsive input smoothing filter.

- Improved the start up calibration procedure. A very quick initial sweep is performed if the saved calibration looks correct, the full calibration sweep is skipped. If a calibration was never persisted, the wheel will perform the quick sweep followed by the full sweep. After a successful calibration, the next time you Save Settings, the calibration will be persisted. On the next power cycle you should expect to see only the quick calibration sweep. In this case the steering wheel will return to the same angle it was in when the unit was powered off. This way people who like to leave their wheel centered will find it remains in center position after the power cycle.

- Improvements to static force reduction. The old implementation would sometimes cause the force reduction offset to change the direction of the FFB output. This is no longer the case.

Pedals
